Foundation Vents
Foundation vents are very important to your home, more important than most people think they are. Foundation vents if not properly operated can cause serious moisture conditions to exist under your home, this moisture can lead to many thing such as conditions that termites and many other wood destroying insects prefer, as well as mold and fungus. If your vents are left open in the winter and the temperatures get below freezing you are more prone to freezing waterlines. At all in one we install vents that take the guess work out of when to open and when to close your vents, they do it automatically. You do nothing at all in the winter time the vents stay closed with the cold temperatures but if it happens to warm up they open up to let your house breath, but as soon as it turns cold again they close, keeping the cold air out from under your home. In the summer they stay open and allow the warm air to circulate under the house drying out the moisture and helping to stop mold and fungi and makes it more difficult for wood destroying insects. Below are some before and after pictures of these vents, they come in various colors but black is the most common.

HOW TO INSTALL FOUNDATION VENTS

Remove old existing vent or make opening for new vent. Normally a hammer will work well to remove one block and the mortar around it cleanly.
Be sure to check that the vent fits snugly into the opening without anything in its way.
Place nuts in the back side, sides of the vent with the flared side facing the outside of the vent.
Insert set screw through opening in vent side into nut and tighten very little.
Place vent in opening and tighten set screws until each one gets snug then tighten appx. one turn each screw.
Vent should be tightly in place and if there were no chips around the outside of the opening you should be finished, if there were chips you may need to caulk to fill in these openings.
Be careful if you use caulk not to get the caulk in the working parts of the vent or it will not function properly.

Congratulations you have just installed your foundations vents and are on your way to a drier home and a home free from many types of molds and mildew.
